Biography

Luqman SAKA (Ph.D.)is a Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He has his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2002, 2005), and his doctoral degree in International Studies from Universiti Utara Malaysia (The Northern University of Malaysia, 2012). He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Politics and International Relations, North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, Republic of South Africa (2015-2016). Professor Saka has attended many international workshops and training programme. He was a participant at the workshop on “Islamic education system in Sub-Saharan Africa: A journey of politics and religion” organized by LASDEL, Niamey; Point Sud Research Institute, Bamako and Goethe University, Frankfurt-Main, 2021. He also participated at the workshop on ‘Sustainability and the State in Africa’ organized by the Point Sud Research Institute, Bamako and the Goethe University, Frankfurt-Main, 2019 and the Clingendael Institute and ECOWAS Commission workshop on ‘Dialogue and Mediation Training of Trainers’, Accra, 2018. He is an alumnus of the American Political Science Association APSA, Africa Fellows Programme, Ouagadougou 2013; the Institute of Federalism, University of Fribourg, Fribourg Switzerland, 2011; SEPHIS/SEASREP Alternative Research Methodology Workshop, The University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus, Quezon City, Metro Manila, the Philippines, 2009; and Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa, CODESRIA Governance Institute, Dakar 2007 and CODESRIA Writing and Publishing Workshop, Nairobi, Kenya 2006. He has consulted for many international and national organizations including the United Nations Development Fund, UNDP (Gambia Office), United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA (Gambia Office) and development Research & Projects Center (dRPC), Abuja, Nigeria among others. Prof. Saka is a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), Nigeria, Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), Dakar, Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA), United States and the African Politics Research Group, (APRG) United States among others. His published works has appeared in Comparative Sociology, Journal of Developing Areas, Brazilian Journal of African Studies, Bulletin of Carol L” National Defense University (Romania), New Contree: A Journal of Historical and Human Sciences for Southern Africa, Africa Security Review, Hemispheres: Studies on Culture and Societies; Journal of Administrative Sciences, Journal of BRICS Studies, African Journal of Development Studies; African Journal on Land Policy and Geospatial Sciences, Journal of African Union Studies, The Anthropologist, African Journal for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, African Renaissance, Gambia Law Review, Gender & Behaviour, Studies in Politics and Society and the Nigerian Journal of International Affairs among other reputable international and national outlets. He served as the Head, Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin (2018-2020) and briefly as acting Sub-Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin (2021).
